COURSE OUTLINE - What you will learn...
Overview:
This course introduces you to the process of visualizing, defining and composing your images. These three steps are the most critical aspects of photography. Not understanding Perception and Definition prohibits all photographers from finishing their images successfully – without a thorough knowledge of the principles and process of Perception & Definition, no effective Composition will ever occur.
1. WEEK 1 – The Art of Seeing Learn the critical and important elements of how to “see” an image and what it is that influences our photographic visions, our ability to create – indeed, what is it that we see? Do we see reality? When we come across a unique landscape, a river bend, a perching owl, a hovering butterfly, a musician in performance, etc., what stimulates us to capture the image; what are we recording and why?

Assignments: Create 4 images that clearly exhibit 4 emotions – serenity, isolation, jubilance, dissatisfaction – giving you a foundation of how to effectively capture any emotions a subject or scene may display or emotions you feel when taking the photograph.
2. WEEKS 2 & 3 - Perception / Definition
Once you perceive an image, learn how to define the elements, components and properties of a subject or scene, so that you can begin the process of creating strong compositions…
Assignments: Create 8 images showing that you understand how to successfully define and interpret the image you have taken.
3. WEEK 4 – Presentation / Composition
Learn how to apply the Perception and Definition process, in order to create visually stimulating and well composed images – grabbing the attention of your viewers.
Assignments: Create 4 images showing successful understanding of Perception & Definition and the principles behind image composition. With this assignment you will apply the knowledge and experience you have gained throughout the course...
