Biography
Jarede Schmetterer
Photography is my passion and I love to travel.
Traveling has opened my eyes to the different colors and flavors of the world. Exposure to new cultures, seeing the beauty, and sometimes the heartbreaking lives of other societies has helped shape my view that all of us are so similar, yet we have such diverse life experiences.
I want to share my photography, the colors and flavors, of what I have seen and felt.
Growing up in Hyde Park – Kenwood, Chicago, I was exposed to the many cultures arriving to study at the University of Chicago. Dancing at the International House brought everyone together through music and dance.
Attending Scattergood, a Quaker high school in Iowa, taught me how to appreciate the simplicity in life, to slow down and see the beauty in the basics of living in a intimate community. I learned to work as a team. We baked bread for the community, dyed and spun wool for cloth and took care of the farm animals. Everyone needed to work together so the community could function to its maximum potential and grow. If one person did not contribute, everyone’s work load got heavier.
I have always had the travel bug, and carried a camera on family vacations to Mexico, Turkey and Israel. It wasn’t until I met my husband, David, that I became a serious and focused artist. We have traveled to Viet Nam, Australia, South America and throughout the United States and Mexico. I have always had the travel bug. Nature and travel photography are my passions and I am thankful that I am able to do both, locally and globally. I have exhibited in Illinois and Michigan.
